Depression enters into your life through your mind.
It enters your mind and goes into your heart. Once it takes root in your heart it grows and becomes a stronghold. Depression starts with thoughts coming to your mind. They are thoughts of condemnation. You hear thoughts that accuse you of being a failure or a loser. Memories of bad choices and decisions come and bombard your mind. Memories of someone hurting you and betraying you fill your mind. All these thoughts are coming from the devil. He is the accuser of the brethren. He tempts you with these condemning thoughts in hopes you will meditate on them. If you meditate on these thoughts they will enter into your heart. Your mind consists of thoughts. However your heart consists of thoughts and feelings. Once a thought has entered into your heart emotions are attached to those thoughts whether good or bad. Once your heart is full of these thoughts and emotions they overflow out of your mouth and you will begin to speak out of those hurts. Once you began to speak out of your heart, your actions are going to soon follow your words. A stronghold in your heart is a thought pattern. In other words every time someone does something to hurt you or you just remember a certain event that caused you pain the same thoughts will always come to your mind. The same argument will be in your mind. Even a list of offenses will come to your mind. As you think about those offenses your emotions are stirred up all over again. Satan’s purpose of depression is to destroy your life, your marriage, your family, your friends and anyone else to can touch through your depression. Once he is done with you he will attempt to get you to kill yourself. He will even give you different ways you can do it. So, how do you overcome depression? Always remember emotions follow thoughts. In order to change your emotions you will have to change your thoughts. The truth of what took place on the cross will completely free you from depression. Satan is the one behind all your depression. He is deceiving you and manipulating you. The truth of your redemption in Christ will defeat him and make you free. The truth is all mankind is born with a sin nature. This nature is selfish. It always condemns others and justifies self. It always blames others for its failures. This wisdom is natural to all humans. This wisdom will not allow us to love God or others, for it only loves itself. It causes us to sin against God’s laws of love. When we fail to obey God’s laws Satan always comes and accuses us and condemns us. This leaves us with a sense of being unworthy of God. Our sin nature also leaves us with a great void in our hearts to be loved, accepted, and have a sense of value and purpose. This void in our hearts makes us venerable of being deceived by the devil to sin even more against God. The Good News is God loved us so much that He sent us a Savior. He sent us Jesus to take our place as a sinner on the cross. Jesus took responsibility for our sins and bore them on the cross. Jesus died on that cross and paid the debt, with innocent blood, for our sins. All who will believe the gospel of Jesus Christ become born-again. God gives us a new spirit and a new heart. He also gives us His Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us. Jesus’ blood now testifies to God that He has paid for our sins with His death on the cross. Therefore Jesus’ blood justifies us before our God. Therefore God will never impute (count) our sins against us. We are now forever forgiven of our sins. We are forgiven of all our past sins and also any sins we may commit in the future. When you accept Jesus as your Savior no one has a legal right to condemn you. Depression always comes to your mind with a thought that condemns you. When you know the truth of your forgiveness In Christ you will not receive any thought that condemns you, even if the accusation is true. You will not receive it because you understand that God is not counting your sins against you, therefore no one can condemn you even if you have sinned. This truth will not allow the devil to ever condemn you again. This same truth will free you from the depression that is already in your heart. Words are the root of your depression and words is what will uproot your depression and free you from it. The truth of your redemption in Christ will uproot all depression in your heart. Just as you meditated on the thoughts of condemnation and accusation, now you must meditate to the truth of your forgiveness and you’re position of righteousness in God’s sight. This truth of your forgiveness will also fill the void in your heart knowing that you are loved by God. You are accepted by God and He places great value on your life and has given you a great purpose to represent Him on this earth. These strongholds are powerful and may take some time to uproot. When you hear these thought patterns in your mind and your emotions start to become depressed don’t listen to those thoughts but fight them by confessing the truths of your redemption in Christ. You also can receive the baptism into the Holy Spirit and allow the Spirit to pray through you and His intercession will help you to overcome. Remember depression is words with emotions attached to them. If you simply change the words in your heart your emotions will also change.
