DAY 11
The New Covenant
Hebrews 8:10-13 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:
* I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts;
* I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
* None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
* For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."
13 In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
The foundation of the Old Covenant was the Ten Commandments. They demanded that you love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. The Old Covenant was all about man’s ability to obey God’s commandments (Man’s works). If you obeyed you were blessed, if you did not obey you were cursed. The purpose of the Law was to make everyone guilty before God and to reveal the sin that was in him. Its purpose was to prove to man he was a sinner and needed a Savior. The New Covenant is not about man’s works. The Old Covenant “Ten Commandments” were demands of “Thou Shalt” and “Thou Shalt Not”. Notice the New Covenant is not about man’s obedience but it is all about what God is going to do for you. The Old Covenant demanded you to love God and others. The New Covenant supplies you with God’s love, for the Holy Spirit puts the love of God in your heart. The Old Covenant demands that you obey all God’s commandments. The New Covenant supplies you with a new spirit and heart empowering you to obey God’s commandments and giving you an understanding of the New Covenant. Under the Old Covenant you were condemned and judged if you committed a sin. Under the New Covenant God is merciful to our unrighteousness and he remembers our sins no more. The Old Covenant was between God and man, a covenant that man could not keep. The New Covenant is between God the Father and God the Son, a covenant that cannot be broken. Under the New Covenant our salvation is secure. Jesus represents us, as our Mediator and High Priest, before the Father. God judges us based on who Jesus is and what he has done for us, therefore we are forever righteous in his sight.

PrayerFather I thank you for putting me “In Christ”. I thank you for judging me based on who Jesus is and what he has done for me and not on my actions. I thank you for being merciful to my unrighteous deeds and for not counting my sins against me.
