DAY 03
God Gives the Law of Moses to Expose Man's Sin
In the Garden of Eden God placed two special trees in the midst of the garden, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. He instructed Adam not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. These two trees are a picture of the Two Covenants. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil represents the Law of Moses (The Old Testament). The Tree of Life represents the Gospel of Jesus Christ (The New Testament). The Law of Moses consists of over six hundred laws. The Ten Commandments are the corner stone of the Old Testament. In these laws the knowledge of good and evil are revealed. The Law of Moses reveals God’s perfect righteousness and holiness. It is God’s standard to be righteous and holy before him. Under the Old Covenant you were blessed if you completely obeyed these laws and cursed if you broke any of them. These blessings and curses are recorded in Deuteronomy chapter twenty eight. The Old Testament was given to prove to man he was born in sin. It reveals man’s sin nature and makes everyone guilty before God.
Romans 3:19-20 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The Ten Commandments demand that you love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. The problem is man is born with sin in him. His sin nature is selfish, self-righteous, prideful and lustful. He can never love God or his neighbor above himself. His sin nature deceives him and will not allow him to obey the Law. The Law of Moses demands that you are righteous and holy before God but it has no power to transform your heart therefore all who try to obtain there righteousness by keeping the Law are found guilty of breaking it. The Law produces condemnation which results in a sense of unworthiness to all who try to obtain their righteousness through the Law. God gave the Law of Moses to show man that he was a sinner, so that, he would receive Jesus as his Savior. All who eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (the Law of Moses) will surely die. The tree of Life is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel righteousness by faith is revealed, the true righteousness of God. All who believe the Gospel and receive Jesus as Savior are given, as a free gift, God’s perfect righteousness and holiness. All who eat from the Tree of Life (Gospel of Christ) receive an abundant life here on this earth and eternal life with our Lord in heaven.

Father I thank you for sending me a Savior. I thank you for allowing me to eat from the Tree of Life. I thank you for revealing to me the true righteousness of God which is through faith in Jesus. I thank you Jesus for bearing my sin, my judgment and my death, so that, I can receive your righteousness, your inheritance and your eternal life.
